Centre for Global Epilepsy attends 2025 ILAE British Scientific Conference (15-17 September 2025, Bournemouth)

The ILAE British Branch Annual Scientific Conference brought together clinicians and researchers to share advances in epilepsy research and care. Highlights included sessions on ageing and epilepsy, public health, genetics, neurosurgery, and early career researcher presentations. Professor Arjune Sen spoke on the Centre’s commitment to empowering global epilepsy research and care.

Centre for Global Epilepsy at 2025 International Epilepsy Congress (30 August-3 September 2025, Lisbon)

The 36th International Epilepsy Congress gathered over 4,000 professionals to advance collaboration in epilepsy research and care. Sessions ranged from paediatric and elderly epilepsy to neurobiology and neurosurgery. Professor Arjune Sen led a session for early career researchers, with other highlights including the WHO Global Action Plan and a reception with PAME and the BAND Foundation on SUDEP.

Centre for Global Epilepsy publishes inaugural newsletter (August 2025)

The Centre published its first newsletter, marking key milestones which included introducing the Strategic Advisory Board, launching the Global Epilepsy Researcher Directory and recent capacity building initiatives. Centre Showcases Collaborative Research at Oxford Talks on Epilepsy Diagnosis (8 July 2025)

As part of the HIGH-Q Exchange Webinar Series, Professor Arjune Sen and Dr Symon Kariuki led a discussion on new approaches to diagnosing epilepsy in Kenya. Hosted by the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, the session highlighted innovative, context-specific solutions from collaborative research between Oxford and the Africa Population and Health Research Centre.

Professor Arjune Sen Keynote at Diagnostics for LMICs Conference (1–2 July 2025)

The 2025 Diagnostics for Low and Middle-Income Countries (DxLMICs) Conference was held at Reuben College, Oxford, bringing together students and experts passionate about diagnostics in global health. Professor Arjune Sen was among the keynote speakers, alongside Professor Dame Molly Stevens and Professor Alan Bernstein, sharing insights on advancing diagnostics for resource-limited settings.

5th African Epilepsy Congress held in Lusaka, Zambia (17–18 May 2025)

The Centre for Global Epilepsy took part in the 5th African Epilepsy Congress in Lusaka, contributing to discussions on equitable care and innovation. Highlights included a workshop on data and AI led by Professor Arjune Sen, sessions on stigma and epilepsy chaired by Professor Sloan Mahone, and research presentations from Professor Charles Newton and Sam Barnes.

Centre Supports Delivery of 2nd ETAM Course at African Epilepsy Congress in Lusaka, Zambia (16 May 2025)

As part of the 5th African Epilepsy Congress, the Centre for Global Epilepsy supported the successful delivery of the second Epilepsy Training in Adult Medicine (ETAM) course in Lusaka, Zambia. This dedicated teaching day equipped healthcare professionals with essential knowledge and skills to improve adult epilepsy care in resource-limited settings.

Oxford Masterclass in Epileptology: Epilepsy and Big Data (9 May 2025)

The 2025 Oxford Masterclass in Epileptology brought together experts to explore the role of big data in transforming epilepsy care. Held at Corpus Christi College, the event featured sessions on imaging, EEG, clinical trials, and genomics, with speakers including Professors Arjune Sen, Mark Richardson, Andrea Cipriani and Eva Morris.

Professor Arjune Sen Joins Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences Lunchtime Newsround (20 March 2025)

Professor Arjune Sen, Chief Executive of the Centre for Global Epilepsy, joined Professor Kevin Talbot, Head of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, for the Lunchtime Newsround at the University of Oxford. They discussed the Centre’s work and the importance of global collaboration in advancing epilepsy care.

Professor Maria Emilia Cosenza Andraus Presents Global Epilepsy Work at the Annual NeuroTech Convention of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT) in Los Angeles, California (27 February-2 March 2025)

Professor Maria Emilia Cosenza Andraus presented on the Oxford Martin School Programme on Global Epilepsy’s efforts to develop innovative diagnostics and digital tools to improve epilepsy care, particularly in resource-limited setting at the Annual NeuroTech Convention of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT) in Los Angeles, California.
